During the pre-operation inspection, the first thing you want to check is the markings. First, check for the presence of a disable tag, which is usually placed on the hoist during maintenance or when the hoist is out of service for some reason. If the FDA conveyor hoist has this type of marking on it, do not remove the disable tag and operate the hoist. The disable tag must be there for a reason, and do not use the hoist unless the person who placed it removes it.

Then find the tag with the hoist information (specifications, model) and the tonnage marking to confirm that this hoist matches your lifting operation. Do not use a hoist that does not have serial number information or tonnage markings.

Finally, if you are not familiar with the hoist you are using, check for warning labels on the hoist, read the warnings and follow them to ensure safe use of the hoist.
